Kolkata Fish Fry with Cheese
Fish fry, Kolkata style, is a street food legend, crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside. This Kolkata fish fry recipe adds a creamy, cheesy centre using The Laughing Cow Cheese to make it even more irresistible. Perfect for evening snacks, guests, or weekend cravings.
How to Make
- 1.
Prep the Fish
Rinse the fish fillets and pat dry. Slice them gently in half, like a pocket, careful not to cut all the way through.
- 2.
Add the Cheesy Surprise
Take one wedge of the Laughing Cow Cheese and spread it inside each fish fillet. Press gently to close the fillet.
- 3.
Marinate
In a bowl, mix ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and garam masala. Rub this mix over the fish. Let it rest for 10 minutes, enough time for the flavours to soak in.
- 4.
Coat and Crumb
Make a quick slurry by mixing maida, cornflour, and a small amount of water. Dip the fish into the slurry, then roll it in breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, press the crumbs in gently.
- 5.
Fry It Up
Heat oil in a kadhai or deep pan. Once hot, slide in the fish and fry on medium heat till golden and crispy, about 3–4 minutes per side.
- 6.
Drain and Serve
Remove and place on kitchen paper to drain the excess oil. You’ll smell the magic already.
